I don't think it's covid related. Most probably that's the beginning of EOL for DW and probably they will kill it next year 😄 They did literally nothing for the latest version. Wondering how do DW devs spend their time while they should be working.

Hello Mike, I'm Teodor and I am a part of the DMXzone team. If your question is related to our extensions (as I see you mention Server Connect), please make sure to send me an email to support@dmxzone.com explaining the issue you're having. We do not provide support in Dreamweaver forum Cheers, Teodor

No, they just removed it in the last version - 4.2.1, it was there before in 4 alpha, 4 official and 4.1 releases. I am not sure if the w3 schools are related to Bootstrap in any way, but maybe their tutorials are just not based on the actual bootstrap example files (github/bs4 site).

It's been in the v4 since the first alpha versions. They removed it from the files on github in the latest release. It's just their website which is not updated - as i said, probably they forgot to remove it

It's not only fixed width (non-responsive) elements that cause this shrinking of the content behavior. There are different reasons for this, for example there are some slider/carousel scripts which place content outside of the viewport (prev/next slides) etc. Also in bootstrap the ".container" class is not non-responsive. It's a responsive container with a width set to 100% and different max-width set for different breakpoints. I personally have never intentionally used the shrink-to-fit attribute, but there are not so many cases where this will happen. Looking at github, Bootstrap guys also removed this before committing the last version: Remove now unnecessary shrink-to-fit viewport directive by patrickhlauke · Pull Request #27818 · twbs/bootstrap · GitHub so i believe they just forgot to update the examples on their site.

I don't think of something that cannot be achieved, but could you provide an example of what was the last thing you couldn't be able to achieve using an extension and what was required to be hand-coded? We have customers building really complex intranet systems for huge corporations including custom made reservation systems for rooms, user management systems, shopping solutions, messaging apps etc. so i think there isn't anything related to databases and dynamic data, which cannot be achieved.

Hello Michelle, From what I see in your posts here and in our forums I think you don't really understand how exactly the DMXzone database tools and app connect framework work. I would like to clarify that for you and for the others reading this topic and your comments. First of all - no javascript runs on the server-side i.e. this statement is totally wrong in terms of explaining how the app connect framework functions: build dynamic websites (server-side and not client-side as the competitor Wappler) The whole dynamic data processing runs on the server-side depending on your selected server model (PHP, ASP.NET or classic ASP). So, let's say you are using PHP then all the database queries, joins etc. are being processed on the server side by PHP files and PHP functions (in this case PHP PDO). The idea behind our tools is to separate server-side code from the front-end. What that means? - It means that on the front-end you only use HTML, CSS and pure javascript. No <?php functions ?> are being inserted on the page. Then how do you get dynamic data on the page? - You then use App Connect Framework to call the data returned by the server-side code on the server and render it on the page. This is done via javascript. The results returned from the server are processed by PHP not "client-side". The only "client-side" part of the whole process is rendering the data on the page. But why do you do this? Why not just using <?php ?> code directly on my pages - it's how DW has done it for years and years! - There are many reasons to do this: Modularity & Reusability - With the application logic completely separated from the fron-end, you have a more modular web application. Your app logic can be reused by any number of web applications (sites) and on different interfaces. Responsiveness - In web applications using server-side code on the front end. (i.e. how DW server behaviors work) the workflow for a user clicking a button to get data looks like this: The user clicks a button to get the data Then the browser sends a request to the server Then the server queries the database Your code performs the logic Then it renders data in a view Then the server returns the response to the user Finally the user sees feedback after waiting the whole time for the page to load With separating client-side application, from the server-side processing you can take advantage of realoding only parts of the pages, which need to be reloaded. Also, as you have the data already returned from the server - you can do client side paging, sorting or filtering and not sending requests for every page change, or letter entered in the search box. What about the security? You say that: -Michele wrote For me, server-side solutions give me a feeling of greater security... Imagine that you <?php echo ...?> some data on a non-protected/non-restricted page. What would be the result? Everybody who has access to it will see the data rendered. Is it PHP to blame here, or is it user's fault as he didn't apply protection on his page? With dmxzone tools, the security is again applied in the server-side code, so it is the same. If you don't secure your data then it will be accessible. So the protection is always applied on the server-side and there is nothing to worry about ... Hope that clears the situation for you. As for the SEO concerns - nothing will change if you are using javascript front-end framework to render the data. What could cause SEO issues is the content quality actually, not the technologies you are using. Google doesn't care if you are using: <title><?php echo $row_recordset['WebsiteTitle']; ?></title> or <title>{{WebsiteTitle}}</title> In the code, when both get rendered by the crawler as "Fluffy kittens" Cheers, Teodor

osgood_ wrote Youre using classes that actually dont do what you really want, unless your'e saying you never over-ride the Bootstrap default css styles? I am using classes which do exactly what i want. How exactrly a class of "col" or "row" or "container" or "col-12" is not doing what i want - they are doing just what i want and i don't need to edit anything related to these classes. osgood_ wrote I would have thought html and css is the core elements every web-developer needs/should know. Javascript/jquery, php etc are just icing on the cake. You cant compare using a library for implemneting additional functionality to something which is not optional. Your comment makes no sense. I am comparing two frameworks: 1. bootstrap 4 (an HTML/CSS framework) written in HTML and CSS where i reuse classes in HTML 2. jquery (a javascript framework) written in javascript where you reuse functions in HTML How is that different? Frameworks are all the same in one thing and it does not matter if it is a php framework, js framework, css framework - and it is defining functions/classes easy to reuse. In my case i use a pre-defined class instead defining a whole CSS rule In your case you include the whole jquery library just to select $('.yourClass') insitead of just using document.getElementsByClassName("yourClass") and not including anything on the page. If you find a language "not-user friendly" that is entirely your problem. The same thing you can tell about C# or JAVA ... This is my last post on this topic as i see it's going to go off-topic, because you know i am right about this and will start throwing some pointless arguments, as you obviously talk against everything you personally don't like.

As i explained many times before - there is no need for me to reinvent the wheel, when i have a ready to use grid - why should i go and invent my own? Just to put different class names doing the same thing? The same way i've seen you many times offering solutions based on jquery, which can be done entirely in javascript - why are you doing that? Because you are used to how easier and faster it is to include the jquery library(framework) and call a function defined there, instead of writing it in pure javascript (no need of reinventing the wheel). And that is something i am not doing ... i don't like using jquery for what can be done in pure javascript.

If you are just starting with web development - then first learn HTML, CSS and some basic pure JavaScript. When you are advanced enough you can choose whether to use floats, flexbox or css grid. Your decision might not be related to a framework at all. If you are advanced enough, then you can take advantage of CSS frameworks, so you can speed up your workflow by using and including only the parts of the frameworks you need, customized it the way you like etc. - this is valid for me, this is also valid for many web developers i know, be they freelancers or working in big teams. A CSS framework is nothing more than a bunch of pre-defined classes which you re-use.

That's an interesting article on the topic: What Is Mixed Content? | Web Fundamentals | Google Developers While in most of the cases this is not a real security risk, browsers will still mark it as such - no idea why I don't think direct links to other pages are considered as risks or are even checked, the idea here is the includes (images, scripts, css files, fonts) you are using on your site must be using https.

What should the padlock result be if an external url link within the website is not a secure link, somethig I cant change? Would that be ignored or would that cause the orange/grey paddlock combination? It will turn grey with that orange trianlge until you make sure all of the links in the page are using https.

As for redirecting to https you just use .htaccess to set the redirect. I believe every hosting company has this explained in the support section. And in order to see the "green paddlock" you need to make sure every link inside the page like images or scripts are called using https.

Encrypting data sent from the forms to the database is just a small part of GDPR. Also you need to make sure that not only you are using SSL for your site (to ensure personal data encrypted during the transit) but also you have to encrypt the pesonal data in the database table so if the database was breached the data would still be exposed.

Yes, it is you I am quoting. I already explained that you won't have to purchase separate extensions as it is now in DW. And you saying that we are going to sell separate extensions for Wappler is the fake info I am referring to. The article explains that the functions, integrated in DW as extensions will be integrated in Wappler and depending on the needs you will have several options for purchase (not separate extensions!). As for Ben - he is one of the hundreds users invited in our pre-release forum. You will learn more about the pricing model and options when this is officially announced. I won't be posting anything else about it at this moment.

Hello, I see some discussion about Wappler is going on around. I won't announce anything specific yet, but i just wanted to clarify that you won't have to purchase separate extensions as it is now for DW and that is because of how DW functions... So, in order to stop fake info spreading in this forum by people who have no idea what is going on - this is not what Wappler pricing will be: W_J_T wrote What a shame they stuck with their extension model of paying for features separately and are not releasing a proper application at a defined cost with features. W_J_T wrote How many extensions will that require a user to buy? LOL Happy New Year to all! Teodor Kuduschiev, DMXzone.com / Wappler.io

Hello I'll try to answer shortly: Wappler will come with Bootstrap 4 and Framework 7 (Foundation will come as well in the really near future). You will be able to import your DW site definitions and work on them - add dynamic data if you wish. SASS, LESS support will be integrated as well. Git also. You will be able to save and reuse custom snippets. Not sure i understand your idea about the external editors support... For now we do not plan to put different views side by side, still when the open beta is available we will collect ideas. App structure is not the HTML structure and will never be. We are not planning to show every single HTML tag there, but only App connect components (bs4, framework7 etc. components as well). If you are familiar with our App Connect Extension, you understand what do i mean. We do not plan draggable panels in the UI at the moment. Again - you can suggest your ideas when the public beta becomes available. The padding/margin you see are dropdowns with the BS4 based padding/margin classes, which you can select. Multiple files can be worked on, no side by side support is available at the moment, but this will come at a later time.

Yes, that is exactly how it works - both for selecting an element and switching from design to code view and vice versa. Design view is an actual so called in DW "Live" view, but much faster and actually shows the real result, like you see it in your browser. Wappler also includes a powerful project management tools and ftp, allowing you to define multiple targets, sync files etc.
